DE-FRAZZLE THIS FEBRUARY!

Declutter, detox, de-stress......defrazzle???? there is no such word but I am sure you know what 'frazzled' means and lets' face it, feeling frazzled means some stress is about to set in and that 'bad' kind of stress can cause headaches, insomnia, low mood and low self esteem. It is also difficult to concentrate and make decisions when you are constantly worried. Negative stress can affect our relationships and daily life.

If you do not manage stress when it hits, it can contribute to many health problems such as heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes and other serious illnesses.

There is such a thing as 'good stress' which can motivate us to overcome challenges & it also boosts memory. There are also certain times when stress can be very helpful as it gives us a vital warning when something does not feel right, we have all heard of the flight-or-fight response but it is important to notice the difference between the good and bad kind of stress.....

Whenever you feel flustered frazzled or anxious thoughts beginning to take over, try this breathing technique below which will help you to feel calm and instantly better. You can also practice this technique anywhere (you don't always have to be in a quiet place or close your eyes!)

1. Preferably find a quiet place and sit down in a comfortable upright position.

2. Place your hands on your knees or your stomach.

3. Close your eyes gently and relax your Jaw.

4. Take a long slow deep breath in through the nose for 5 counts (counting to yourself) then breath out for 5 counts. Repeat this 10 times. I love saying 'LET' breathing in & 'Go' breathing out

5. Your heart rate and pulse should lower back down so that you return to normal breathing and a lighter calmer feeling takes over

Like anything, it is better to get into a daily practice of doing this kind of habitual mediation so that you are equipped to manage those frazzled pressurised times in life.

This short exercise also gives you a chance to 'let go' of a negative thought and allow a fresh positive one in to replace it. Lets' start the practice of de-frazzling the mind this Spring!
